Water Trails

Crowe River

Set aside at least 5 hours to canoe or kayak from Marmora to Campbellford downstream in the summer months. You'll pass a conservation area, farm fields, remnants of an old mill where you may have to exit your boat to portage, and some shallow rapids.

Those shallow rapids turn into a kayaker's whitewater delight in the spring months (see image)when you pass through the Crowe Bridge Conservation Area. It's a beautiful, natural "water park".  Enthusiasts come from all over to kayak, river surf and observe the fun while standing on the bridge over the rapids.

A detailed map is recommended and can be obtained for a small fee by calling the Crowe Valley Conservation Authority at 1-613-472-3137.

Trent-Severn Waterway

Bring your 5 foot or 50 foot craft along this internationally-renowned waterway that stretches across Central Ontario. Northumberland's portion welcomes boaters at the southern portion of the waterway and includes 11 of the 36 conventional locks in the system. Smaller boats can enjoy investigating the marshy shorelines with varous fish jumping alongside. Latest reports say that even a bear was spotted swimming below Lock 11. The locks are in operation from mid May to mid October, but smaller boats can easily launch in between the locks to begin their journey early or later in the season. Contact Northumberland Tourism at 1-866-401 EAST (3278) for launching spots.
